FIDF YOUNG LEADERS START THE NEW YEAR OFF

FORGING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN LOCAL YOUTH AND ISRAEL

The Young Leadership Division of the FIDF Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey Chapter has several goals, one of which is to reach out to students throughout the region to introduce them to FIDF, and strengthen their connection to the state of Israel.

On January 7th, Judi Shapiro, Director of the Teen Learning Community Program at Congregations Shaare Shamayim organized a full house of high school students, alumni, and parents to hear the stories of two young adults from our region who served in the IDF.   Ariel Grayson and Jared Ben-Caro were welcomed and engaged the crowd.  Ariel shared her story of making aliyah with her family as a young girl and serving in the IDF as non-combat personnel.  Jared described his experiences as an IDF lone soldier, and gave accounts of combat operations.

FIDF Young Leaders concluded the year with several efforts that also supported IDF soldiers directly, including their first Annual Mishloach Manot Telethon and hosting Shabbat dinner for visiting soldiers.  In addition, there were social gatherings such as a Hannukah Happy Hour, a YL Summer BBQ and a Chametzfest in the days leading up to Passover.
