IDF Veteran Ofri Wolfus Makes Strides
Ofri Wolfus barely got a taste of army service. Five years ago, during basic training on the Zikim training base, a rocket was launched at his base. Wolfus lost his leg on the spot but was unaware of the amputation until after his operation. “I remember that on the way to the operating room I asked the doctors to try and save my leg,” he tells Ynet. “I didn’t know it was already gone.”
But Wolfus did not allow the injury to get to him, he did exactly the opposite – for the first time in his life, he developed an interest in sports. Recently, he was given a special prosthetic by Friends of the IDF, enabling him to run regularly and dream of the next step: a marathon.
“There’s no difference between my life before and my life now, other than the fact that I can get my girlfriend to bring me a glass of water in the middle of the night because I don’t feel like putting on my leg,” he says and laughs.
