Long Island Chapter
The Long Island Chapter of Friends of the IDF was founded in 1986 by Jerry Kaplan, who served as the Long Island Dinner Chairman for more than 20 years and spearheaded efforts to support Israel’s soldiers. His successor, Edeed Ben Josef, continues the strong tradition today, as the Long Island Chapter continues to expand with numerous parlor meetings, concerts and community events on both the North Shore and South Shore of Long Island.

Testimonials
“I started going to bases before I became involved with FIDF. When I saw the way the young soldiers had to live in barracks that were built at the turn of the century, it broke my heart.
I was always fiercely proud of my Jewish heritage. I believe that we have to take care of our own. There would be no Israel if there was no IDF. If Israel is to stay strong, the IDF must be strong. I wanted to do everything I could for the soldiers who were fighting for our homeland, and for our heritage.”
- Jerry Kaplan
"I did not serve in the Israeli army and always felt indebted to the country which is a big part of who I am......The FIDF gave me the opportunity to fulfill my desire to serve Israel"
- Ronny Ben Josef
"The IDF has proven itself over and over again as the defender of Israel and the Jewish People. Israel's survival is dependent upon the strength of the IDF. Its strength is, however, also dependent on the emotional and physical wellbeing of our soldiers. If we can't assist our soldiers in defending our homeland, at least we can make their daily lives a little easier."
- Dr. Fred Endzweig
