2005/2006 Westchester/CT chapter campaign at Reim

The Westchester/CT chapter of FIDF successfully raised $1,000,000 to build a recreation center at Reim military base. The facility was inaugurated in May 2009 by members of the Westchester/CT chapter during the FIDF Spring Mission trip. The supporters of the community were very excited to visit the base for the opening ceremony.

Reim is the largest base for land troops in southern Israel. The soldiers who serve at Reim, located near the Gaza Strip, are men and women of tight military discipline who need relief from the daily combative and aggressive routine. The recreation complex includes rooms to accommodate social interaction as well as quiet activities for the Reim soldiers to use in peace. The complex is divided into three main spaces: an officers club, a soldiers club, and a computer classroom, all with the comforts of air conditioning.

A quote from our supporter:
Phillip Jacobs of the Westchester/CT Chapter,
“By helping to initiate and build the Westchester/CT chapter of the FIDF I have been able to share in the exhilarating experience of supporting the young men and women of the IDF who sacrifice and fight for Medinat Yisrael and make the Jewish State a reality. As Nathan Alterman said, they are the silver platter upon which the Jewish State has been given. It has been thrilling to work with my friends in Westchester and Connecticut to help build the facility at Beit Lid, and at Reim, and elsewhere. We have had a chance to put a human face on the IDF and Israel as we work here, in the U.S., for our dream: Medinat Yisrael, in peace and prosperity, a beacon of light to the world.”
