 Tu B’shvat @ TY Park

On Sunday, February 8, 2015, the Friends of the IDF, Greater Miami Chapter participated in a Jewish community fair at TY Park in Hollywood, Florida in celebration of Tu B’shvat.  Tu B’shvat is also known as "Rosh HaShanah La'Ilanot", or the "New Year of the Trees.” The day is celebrated to broaden ecological awareness and as a result, trees were planted in celebration.READ MORE


Lifetime Miami Marathon 2015- FIDF Run for the Soldiers

Sunday, Jan 25 Friends of the IDF participated as a sponsor in the Miami Marathon event along with Cold Pressed Raw! All participants finished strong (and revived with cold-pressed juices at our tent) in their custom FIDF dry-fit shirts; for many it was their first Half-Marathon! 

We are so proud of the hard work and dedication that every participant put into completing this event and look forward to doing so for years to come!

ZUMBA SUNDAY SHVITZ @OM’ECHAYE

Young Jewish leaders in Miami broke a serious sweat – for Israeli Army soldiers Sunday November 16!

The Friends of the IDF (FIDF) Young Leadership Florida Region organized a special “Sunday Shvitz” session (“shvitz” is the Yiddish word for sweat) that will turn hours of intense workouts into donations for well-being and educational programs that help the men and women of the IDF. Special thanks to OM'ECHAYE for hosting our amazing class and to our co-chairs!

The “Sunday Shvitz” is part of an ongoing initiative to care for the well-being of the community while taking care of the well-being of Israel’s soldiers. The Young Leadership Division plans to continue this important initiative by inviting the community to more fitness events in the future. Our next Shvitz event will be Dec 14, Exhale Spa at the Epic Residence + Hotel! + Dec 21 Slash Fitness /// Performance

 10th Annual Casino Night

More than 600 guests joined world champion poker player Jamie Gold and Founder and CEO of the Wall Street Conference and Founding Partner Jason  S. Lyons this past Saturday for a “Casino Royale” event at the exclusive Trump International Beach Resort in Sunny Isles Beach. The event, to support wellbeing services for the men and women of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), raised $115,000.

The FIDF Florida Region would like to congratulate our 2014 Raffle winners as well as thank all those who participated in this year’s raffle. The lucky winning tickets were drawn by FIDF board member Malcia Rothstein on September 23rd. First place, and the winners of two round trip airline tickets to Israel, were Jeff & Debbie Katz from Aventura, Florida. Second place went to Martin Fuchsman from Boca Raton, who won a high valued art piece by Melanie Taylor Kent, and Jill Kurzer from Miami who won third place, a beautiful Kreiger watch










Temple Beth El Open House 2014The Friends of the IDF Greater Miami Chapter joined the Alpha & Omega Church in Miami

The Friends of the IDF Greater Miami Chapter joined the Alpha & Omega Church in Miami on Sunday, September 7 for a moving service in support of the IDF and the State of Israel. Dr. Alberto Delagado, founder and senior pastor of Alpha & Omega Church, lead the services along with Pastor Carlos Ortiz, National Hispanic Coordinator of CUFI, who both stressed the importance of supporting Israel during these turbulent times. Chaim Shacham, Consul General of Israel to Florida and Puerto Rico, also spoke briefly. Dina Ben Ari, Florida Regional Executive Director introduced FIDF to the congregation and presented an award to Ana Angel, a young Christian girl from Miami who is leaving to volunteer with the IDF, as well as to Pastor Delgado for his hospitality and friendship to the FIDF and the State of Israel.

The Friends of the IDF Greater Miami Chapter welcomed Former Shabak (Secret Service) and Mossad senior Eliezer “Geizi” Tsafrir to South Florida this September. Now a retired author, Mr. Tsafrir shared his experiences as former head of Mossad in Iraqi Kurdistan, Iran, and Lebanon with members of Skylake Synagogue in North Miami and Bet Shira in South Miami. Mr. Tsafrir also shared his opinion on the current situation in the Middle East.

Temple Sinai Open House 2014Temple Sinai Open House

Temple Beth El of Hollywood held its open house, Sunday August 24.  Young families and congregants joined together to celebrate the beginning of the new school year at the temple and sign up for High Holiday services.  The FIDF provided Krav Maga and letters for the kids to write to the soldiers.  The kids and parents got a hands on experience of how to defend themselves.  They expressed their support to the soldiers in letters that will be sent to Israel.

Temple Beth El of Hollywood held its open house with over 250 people in attendance, Sunday August 24.  Young families and congregants joined together to celebrate the beginning of the new school year at the temple and sign up for High Holiday services.  Rabbi Alan Tufts participated in the “hammas vs hummus” challenge, to demonstrate his support for the FIDF, and encouraged the congregation to participate and donate to the organization.

 

Executive Director of Florida visited the wounded soldiers

Dina Ben Ari, Executive Director of Florida visited the wounded soldiers at Tal-hashomer Hospital in Israel. She brought them FIDF backpacks filled with goods to take back to their bases.

Friends of the IDF Greater Miami Chapter members inaugurated its 8th President Oscar Feldenkreis at Bank Leumi, Aventura. We honored Monica Sasson , the outgoing President and thanked her for the great accomplishments during her presidency and introduced Oscar Feldenkreis the incoming President .

The Friends of the IDF Greater Miami Chapter was welcomed to Central Florida by Orlando area donors Ron and Mardi Shader and Burt and Barbara Chasnov, who hosted a beautiful parlor meeting at the Shader’s home on May 18th. Over 50 supporters gathered to hear IDF Second Lieutenant Roni Johnson speak about her role in the Israel Defense Forces and how the FIDF helps the soldiers, especially the ones in her own battalion. Together, the group raised enough funds for the Orlando community’s third IMPACT! Scholarship.

1,000 prominent business and philanthropic leaders from South Florida gathered at the Westin Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida for the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) Greater Miami Solidarity Gala raising $3.3 million for the wellbeing of the IDF soldiers.

Israel Awareness Day @ Hebrew Academy

FIDF helped to organize an “IDF experience” boot camp, at the Hebrew Academy (RASG) along with JUMP (Jewish Unity Mentoring Program) which hosted its Second Annual Israel Awareness Day on Monday, February 3. The event featured a keynote address by Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who addressed anti-Israel sentiments, myths created by the media, and the importance of advocating on behalf of Israel.

Over 80 Skylake Synagogue congregants came together on January 13, 2014, to hear an amazing story of an individual who serves in the Israel Defense Forces Air force. The pilot flys Black Hawk helicopters and patrols over Israel, ensuring its people are protected.

Comedy Night

Thursday November 14, Over 300 guests attended the FIDF Greater Miami Chapters first Salute to the IDF: Comedy Night, featuring Celebrity comedian and former IDF Soldier Joel Chasnoff. The night was hosted by FIDF Board Members Paula Hertzberg, Marcel Calef and FIDF Greater Miami Chapter President Monica Sasson.

The FIDF Florida Chapters recently announced their adoption of the Golani Brigade, and their delegates were thrilled to meet the brigade’s soldiers in person and take part in a special adoption ceremony. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 - The FIDF Greater Miami Chapter hosted a meet and greet at the Skylake Synagogue, where Lieutenant Colonel Yossi Matzliah, Deputy Commander of the Meitav IDF Recruitment and Induction Center, presented a beautiful and informative program about the military base where IDF recruits are sorted into their respective corps and basic training bases. 2012 Raffle Drawing

The Greater Miami Chapter board member Dr. Ann Ballen opened up her Kendall home to host the first parlor meeting of the season.  About 40 guests gathered to hear speaker Sandra Sterling, the mother of a Lone Soldier, share her experiences growing up in El Salvador and discovering her Jewish identity.

Gilad Shalit Visits Miami
