A Life Changing Experience for a Long Island Supporter
During Stuart Abo’s last trip to Israel, he chose to travel a bit off the beaten path and, instead of just exploring the land of Israel, to meet the men and women who protect it. On May 12th, he joined an IDF base visit to a Givati Brigade base in the Golan Heights, where soldiers enthusiastically greeted him and gave him a tour of their base.
Temple Beth Sholom of Roslyn visits soldiers of Shimshon Battalion on FIDF Base Visit
On June 30th, members of Temple Beth Sholom of Roslyn, New York participated in an FIDF base visit to meet the soldiers of the Kfir Brigade’s Shimshon Battalion on their base outside of Jerusalem.

NEW YORK, May 28 – More than 550 community leaders gathered in Cedarhurst last night for the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) Five Towns and Greater South Shore Fourth Annual Community Event, raising more than $420,000 to support the brave men and women of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

HAFTR Hawks Basketball Team Raises $10,000 in Support of the IDF Soldiers
Friends of the IDF would like to congratulate the HAFTR Hawks and Coach Joey Hoenig on an outstanding game played at the Barclays Center on Sunday, December 28. Over 600 friends, family, and fans from the HAFTR community came out to cheer for the Hawks and show their support for men and women in uniform.

On Sunday, September 14th, the Men’s Club at Temple Israel of Great Neck hosted their annual breakfast inviting IDF Sgt. Yoni Asseraf as this year’s guest speaker. Shabbat and Stories from the Frontlines
On Friday, November 4, 2011, FIDF teamed up with Kehillath Shalom of Cold Spring Harbor for a beautiful Shabbat dinner at the synagogue. We were privileged to hear from two visiting guest speakers, Captain Nati and Captain Ofri from the IDF, who shared their backgrounds and experiences serving in defense of the Jewish Homeland.
Long Island raises more than $650,000 at local Gala
On Tuesday evening, September 20, Friends of the IDF supporters gathered together at the Long Island Chapter’s 6th Annual IDF Appreciation Evening. Nearly 500 people attended the gala event, held at the Fresh Meadows Country Club in Lake Success, to show their support for the soldiers of the IDF.

Mitzvah projects that help kids be kids!
Olivia, daughter of Ofer and Shari Yardeni, chose to support FIDF’s Legacy Program with gifts given in honor of her Bat Mitzvah. Every summer, the Legacy program brings Israeli children of Bar and Bat Mitzvah age from bereaved families to the U.S. to enjoy 10 days of summer camp, have fun and escape from their hardships at home.
Paintball with IDF Soldiers
It’s not often that a group of Long Island teenagers get led into battle by Israeli soldiers, but on Sunday, February 6, two IDF officers and their teams of high school students squared off in an epic battle of strategy, strength and courage. A paintball battle, that is.

5th Annual IDF Appreciation Evening
On September 21, 2010, the FIDF Long Island Chapter held its 5th Annual IDF Appreciation Evening at Fresh Meadows Country Club. It was a wonderful evening paying tribute to our honorees, Edeed Ben Josef and Yaron Rosenthal, as well as the brave soldiers of the IDF.
Long Island Teen committee raises over $10,000 for the soldiers!
On May 23rd, 2010, the Long Island Teen Leadership threw a Spring BBQ Party to raise funds to support FIDF’s programs. The party was hosted by Arielle Kraus, the co-president of the Teen Leadership board, with the support of her parents, Robert and Ravit Kraus.
IDF Combat Soldiers visit the students at Hebrew Academy of The Five Town and Rockaway HAFTR Middle School, an Orthodox day school in the Five Towns
The schools welcomed two IDF combat soldiers to speak to grades 6-8. The soldiers shared pictures and movies from their military service and answered a slew of questions from the enthusiastic audience.
The event closed with an assembly lead by Rabbi Dovid Kupchik and everyone joined in to sing Hatikvah.
IDF Combat Soldiers visit the Youth Group in Temple Israel of Great Neck
IDF combat soldiers spent time with the youth group of Temple Israel in Great Neck during their after-school meeting time, sharing their stories with the group and their youth leader, Moji Pourmoradi. The soldiers led the students in a discussion about Yom Hazikron and how meaningful the holiday is for them as soldiers, and answered the many insightful questions posed by the youth group.

FIDF “Haganah” group kicks off with a whopping $40,000 raised at IDF Ensemble concert!
On November 12, the IDF Ensemble performed for a packed house of more than 300 people at the Sid Jacobson JCC in East Hills. Amy and Scott Smith, the organizers of the event, were thrilled with the great energy from the crowd and the incredible support shown for the soldiers.
