Keynote Speaker at the Event was Head of the Interactive Media Branch, IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Avital Leibovich
Palm Springs, CA, March 6, 2014 – $212,000 was raised at the Friends of the IDF (FIDF) Palm Springs Benefit for Israel’s soldiers on February 26, 2014 at the Tamarisk Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA. More than 100 FIDF supporters gathered at the event, where they had the opportunity to meet and hear from keynote speaker, Lieutenant Colonel Avital Leibovich, Head of the Interactive Media Branch at the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit.
“Digital media has revolutionized the way we are able to reach audiences globally and with it our potential to change public opinion. The media war is an ongoing battle for public opinion,” said Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich at the event. “As head of the IDF’s Interactive Media Branch, we manage 30 individual digital media accounts across 9 platforms 24/7. The IDF has accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram and Google +, as well as the official IDF Blogs and thousands of videos on our YouTube accounts. And we do it all in six languages,” she added.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Midwest Region Executive Director, Tamir Oppenheim, as well as FIDF IMPACT! Scholarship recipient, Avishai Saban, who is currently studying towards a degree in Information Technology at the University of Haifa. The FIDF IMPACT! Scholarship Program provides Israel Defense Forces (IDF) combat soldiers, who have completed their mandatory military service but cannot afford the cost of higher education, with academic scholarships that will enable them to study and pursue the next chapter in their lives.
“Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich offers a unique perspective on a war we don’t hear about often enough, the media war that Israel is fighting on a daily basis. We feel very fortunate to hear from her and learn from the very top how Israel is dealing with the important world of social media,” said Midwest Region Executive Director, Tamir Oppenheim. “This was also an amazing opportunity for us, considering that she is in a very busy time for the IDF and her unit, so we are honored that she took the time to visit our FIDF communities. During her visit, she met hundreds of people around the country. And she was able to share the important FIDF mission of caring for the wellbeing needs of the brave men and women on the frontlines, who protect our Jewish homeland.”
